Twelve people killed in weekend’s shootings

The United States was hit last weekend by a series of shootings in which, according to the police and the media, 12 people were killed and about 50 injured. President Joe Biden just last month called the gun violence in his country an “epidemic”.

The victims were shootings in New Jersey, South Carolina, Georgia, Ohio and Minnesota. On Saturday night at a party in Camden, New Jersey, two people were shot and at least 12 people were injured, according to police. In South Carolina, a 14-year-old girl was killed and fourteen people were injured at a concert. In Atlanta, Georgia, police found three shot victims on Sunday after responding to a call about gunshots.

Three other people were killed early Sunday morning and eight people were injured at a bar in Youngstown, Ohio. A 16-year-old girl was killed in a park in Columbus. There were also seven wounded. There was also a deadly shooting Saturday in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It took place the night before a march Sunday in honor of George Floyd, the black man who was killed last spring by a white ex-police officer, on the first anniversary of his death. One person was killed and eight injured, one of whom was critical. Minneapolis police have reported that one suspect was arrested and a second deceased.
