Dancing is Crime in Iran


In Iran, 18-year-old Maedeh Hojabri, was arrested for publishing in the social network of Instagram videos picturing her dancing in her own bedroom, the Independent reported Monday.

Hojabri was an Instagram star with tens of thousands of followers but also used multiple accounts on other social media. She has posted over 300 videos with her dances to national and Western music.

The state television of Iran accused the girl of gross violation of moral norms. The professional dancer is also accused public appearance with uncovered hair and wearing no hijab.

Law enforcers have arrested three more people on similar charges, according to reports of Iranian media outlets.

Khojabiri said she only wanted only to attract more subscribers to her page.

In Iran, there is strict Internet censorship. Instagram, like many other social networks (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Telegram), undergo periodic interlocks in the country.

Some Iranian women took to social media to post videos of themselves dancing in support of Hojabri. On 15, 29-year-old TV host of the entertainment show Amal Al-Awadi in Kuwait fired during the live broadcast because of her dress that some believed too revealing..
