Millennials to Set Obesity Record

Millennials are destined to become the most obese generation, the study finds. It slams a common stereotype about people born between the early 1980s and mid-1990s. The stereotype often shows the common treat of the generation as a «health and diet obsessed». However statistics prove it wrong. Although the data is available for British Millennials there are no reasons not to apply the same results on US population of the comparable age.

Millennials will overtake post-war generation as the age group with the highest proportion of overweight or severely obese people, Cancer Research UK reports. It will happen as soon the generation will come to the middle age, which is 45 years, according to the UN standards.

While 50% of the baby-boomers were having high BMI by the time they reached middle age, seven out of ten millennials will reach high BMI in 2026-28. Thus Millennials will be the most overweight group of population in British history, Cancer Research said.

Overweight and obesity carries high risk for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes. It is highly correlated with at least thirteen types of cancer. It paints a grim picture of the future and pushes healthcare system to its current limits. Obesity is already causing an average 29% surge in healthcare cost in Unites States.

Meanwhile the next generation will definitely outperform the Millennials. As much as 14 percent of US children between two and five years old are obese or overweight, according to the Researchers at Duke University. The study contradicts to previously published data which claims that situation with child obesity in US «is stabilized» due to the previous administration reforms of school nutrition. Now it became obvious that the reform was not deep enough to withstand the national problem.

Wisconsin spent over 12 percent of health care funding to treat obesity-related illness. Adult obesity rate in Wisconsin reaches 30,7% according to 2017 data. In 2000 in was 19.4 percent. And only 11.8% back to the year 1990. Wisconsin has the 23rd highest adult overweight and obesity rate in US.
