Unvaccinated people are at higher risk of severe sickness from COVID-19 compared with those who received a vaccine. While over 50% of the population in every U.S. state is now fully vaccinated, some states are much further ahead than others.

These are the 10 states with the lowest full vaccination rates in the country, according to the most recent CDC data:

1. (tie) Alabama (52.7%)
1. (tie) Wyoming (52.7%)
3. Mississippi (53.4%)
4. Louisiana (54.8%)
5. Tennessee (56.0%)
6. Idaho (56.1%)
7. Arkansas (56.5%)
8. Georgia (56.7%)
9. Indiana (57.5%)
10. North Dakota (58.1%)

As of Nov. 24, over 80% of people in the U.S. had received their first shot to guard against COVID-19 and 68.8% were considered fully vaccinated, according to USAFacts and data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC distinguishes between being “fully vaccinated” and being “up to date.”
