Tax Day extended because of IRS site outage

The IRS has announced that it extends time to file and pay their tax returns for one day. The reason for it is inaccessibility of IRS website for roughly one day. The site was down due to heavy workload of server infrastructure. It has nothing to do with hacking or any other malicious actions.

The IRS apologized for the issue and said it appreciated everyone’s patience. The site is perfectly operational now. It was banking and billing subsystem failure that caused the outage.

“This is the busiest tax day [April 17] of the year, and the IRS apologizes for the inconvenience this system issue caused for taxpayers,” said acting IRS Commissioner David Kautter in a statement.

The IRS said that individuals and businesses due to file Tuesday will now have to do it until this Wednesday night.
